Building Division

City buildings are open Monday through Thursday, from 8 AM – 5 PM, and will be physically closed to the public on Fridays. However, the community will still be able to access staff and services either by phone or by email, depending on services requested. 

The Building department will be be available to the Public from 8am-4pm Monday through Thursday with closure for lunch from 12-1pm.

Last submittal and/or permit issuance is at 3:30pm to allow adequate time for processing before the counter closes.


Responsibilities

The Building Division is responsible for the enforcement of building standards to safeguard health, life, safety, property, and public welfare of all buildings and structures within the City of Napa.

Goals

The Building Division’s Goals are to:

  • Review construction plans for compliance with the latest adopted California Building Code, City ordinances, and state and federal laws
  • Provide education for the general public and construction professionals as it relates to new building regulations and methods
  • Provide responsive and efficient service to the public in a friendly manner

2022 California Building Code

The City of Napa adopted the 2022 California Building Code effective January 1, 2023 as amended by City Municipal Code Section 15.04.030.

Depending on the scope of work the project may trigger a review from Napa Sanitation District which is an outside agency review from the City of Napa.
