Maintenance Division

The division's responsibility is to plan, organize and direct the operation of its five sections. These sections are:

  • Street Maintenance (Signs/Sweeping)
  • Street Paving
  • Sidewalk Repair/Replacement
  • Street Lighting
  • Traffic Control
  • Electrical
  • Communications

Responsibilities

  • Managing the construction, repair and maintenance of City roads, bridges and storm drainage facilities
  • Installation and repair of electrical systems traffic signal systems, street lights, signs and markings
  • Managing the design, acquisition, installation, operation, maintenance, repair and replacement of City-wide radio
  • Assisting in the development and control of the division budgets

Facilities Maintained by this Division

The Public Works Maintenance Division is responsible for the maintenance of approximately 480 lane miles of public roadway and right-of-way. Facilities that the division maintains include:

  • ADA ramps
  • Bicycle lanes
  • Curb and gutter
  • Pavement markings
  • Sidewalks
  • Storm drainage
  • Street lights
  • Street pavement
  • Traffic signals
  • Traffic signs

Various maintenance programs have been implemented which fully maximize the use of the division's 37 full-time Maintenance Workers. A management team is responsible for the day-to-day operations, as well as for short and long range planning.

Sidewalk Repair Program

The Sidewalk Repair Program was enacted by City Council in 1990 for expedient repair of frontage improvements damaged by street trees throughout the City. The program allows property owners to replace street trees, sidewalk, curb, gutter, and driveway and receive a partial reimbursement from the City. The program is funded yearly by the General Fund.
