Napa Roundabouts

Napa Roundabouts Update

What's Next?

The Roundabouts project is moving along, and we have some important milestones coming up that we want to share with you!
  • California Boulevard, between Second and Third Streets (that has been closed due to construction) is scheduled to open the week of February 17th. As it gets closer, we will have a better idea of timing, and as always, this is dependent upon weather.

  • The third roundabout, at Second Street and California Boulevard, is scheduled to be open and functioning the week after California Boulevard opens (the week of February 24th). There will still be some work that needs to be completed but the intersection will be functioning as a roundabout.

  • Landscape planting will be on-going for several weeks.

  • Final paving will be done in the middle of March, followed by final sign installation and striping.

FREE Water-Wise Workshops

Coming Up: Rainwater Harvesting & Rain Gardens

City of Napa Water and the Napa County Resource Conservation District are teaming up with Napa Library’s H2O Superhero Program this year to present three free Water-Wise Workshops. The first, Rainwater Harvesting and Rain Gardens, is coming up on Wednesday, February 26, 6:30 to 8:30 pm, in the Community Meeting Room at the Napa Main Library, 580 Coombs Street, Napa. Jesse Savou, Founder/Owner of BlueBarrel Rainwater Catchment Systems, will show how to actively collect and store rainwater for later irrigation use. Holly Johnson of GSM Landscape Architects will present the passive rainwater harvesting option, specialized rain gardens that reduce runoff and pollution while creating habitat for native species. Several homeowners will provide local rainwater harvesting case studies. The event is free, and no registration is needed. Attendees will gain access to free literature and water-saving tools. A few lucky winners will even take home great door prizes.

This Water-Wise partnership with the H2O Superhero series continues April 29 with Smart Irrigation and Drip Systems and concludes with Greywater Systems on June 24.

City of Napa to Explore By-District Elections

On February 11, 2020, in response to a letter received on January 2, 2020 asserting that the City is required to transition to district-based elections for Councilmembers in order to comply with the California Voting Rights Act, the City Council adopted Resolution R2020-017 declaring the City’s intention to transition from an at-large election system to a district-based election system for its four Councilmembers for use in the City’s General Municipal Election on November 3, 2020.
In a district-based election system, the City is divided into four districts, and the voters in each district will elect a Councilmember who resides in their district; however, the Mayor will still be elected at-large by voters throughout the City.
The community's input in the development of the voting districts is extremely important to this process. Helen Putnam Award Logo

Napa Lighted Arts Festival Wins Helen Putnam Award for Excellence

The Napa Lighted Arts Festival won the 2019 Helen Putnam Award for Excellence in the Economic Development through the Arts category. This 9-day free festival features iconic architecture becoming the painting in this unique lighted art walk. Successful programs illustrate how investment in the arts stimulates the local economy through tourism, festivals, and cultural attractions, and how innovative arts programs were established through a collaborative partnership. Winning programs also must illustrate adopted city policies or ordinances that integrate the arts and culture into their General Plans, specific plans, or other city council adopted policies. Check out the video about the award winners here!

Who was Helen Putnam?
From the League of California Cities: Helen Putnam was a mother, school teacher, principal, mayor, and county supervisor. But most of all, Helen Putnam was a person who viewed meeting one's potential as the measure of success. Excellence, to Helen Putnam, was shown by someone who did his or her very best. She was as supportive and loving of people who did their best as she was of people who did the best. To the League and to California cities, Helen Putnam defined excellence. The Award for Excellence is given in her memory.
