Updated Shelter At Home Order for Napa County Napa County’s Public Health Officer has released an updated Shelter At Home Order for Napa County. The local order is now aligned and consistent with the State of California’s Stay At Home Order and “Roadmap to Modify the Stay At Home Order.” The order has no end date and is subject to amendments by the Public Health Officer or changes to the State’s Order.
The changes to this Order include the allowance of outdoor recreation sports that can comply with physical distancing requirements; however, person-to-person contact sports are still prohibited. Drive-in activities that can comply with physical distancing requirements are now also allowed.
Businesses will be permitted to reopen within the State of California’s framework that identifies four-stages to reopening. More information on the State’s Order and plans can be found here: www.covid19.ca.gov
Per the State’s Order, the only additional businesses permitted to open on Friday, May 8th are retail businesses that offer curbside service with proper physical distancing protocols. Examples of businesses that can operate curbside retail include: bookstores, jewelry stores, toy stores, clothing stores, shoe stores, home and furnishing stores, sporting goods stores, antique stores, music stores and florists. The supply chains supporting the above businesses in manufacturing and logistics sectors may also open beginning May 8th. All other non-essential businesses should remain closed. Additional information is available on the State’s website at https://covid19.ca.gov/roadmap/
Finally, this revision requires wearing cloth face coverings when inside places of business and in workplaces when interacting with any person where six feet of physical distancing cannot be maintained. The face coverings requirement provides for exclusions, such as when you are engaged in outdoor activities, and exceptions for certain populations. The cloth face covering requirement is in effect beginning Saturday, May 9th at 12:01 AM. Napa County’s Complete Order and Frequently Asked Questions pertaining to the order can be found here: https://www.countyofnapa.org/2813/Shelter-at-Home-Order
Questions can be emailed to [email protected] or the public can call (707) 253-4540. Napa County’s call center is staffed Monday-Friday from 8am to 8pm.

Bay-Friendly Garden Tour Goes VirtualA decade-long Napa Valley tradition continues this year as the Bay-Friendly Garden Tour transitions into a full Garden Month! Throughout the month of May, please join the Napa County Resource Conservation District (RCD) and City of Napa Water as they present a suite of online events and resources that will inspire local residents to adopt water-saving, sustainable landscaping practices in their own front and back yards. From the hub at NapaRCD.org/2020GardenMonth you will access live, exclusive videos featuring fabulous local gardeners showing off their sites. Additional live workshops with professional landscape designers will allow for in-depth exploration of gardening topics. Other recorded videos and web links will impart Bay-Friendly tips and show off helpful local resources. After the first week’s focus on soil, mulch, and compost, a diverse series of events will cover native plants, pollinator habitat, organic edible gardens, water-wise garden design, plant selection, irrigation, and pest management. Additional surprises will be added throughout the month, and all videos will be preserved for later viewing. Several garden visits will be Facebook Live events. Workshops will be presented via Zoom, with registration available at the Bay-Friendly Garden Month home page: https://naparcd.org/2020gardenmonth/ So, in lieu of the traditional in-person one-day tour, enjoy some online inspiration during the entire month of May, Bay-Friendly Garden Month! Sponsors and helpers for these virtual online events include the City of Napa, Napa County RCD, Town of Yountville, UC Master Gardeners of Napa County, and CNPS Napa Valley Chapter. They are inspired by Bay-Friendly Landscaping & Gardening, a program of ReScape California (rescapeca.org), a non-profit organization that advocates for a sustainable approach to landscaping that works in harmony with the natural environment. General Plan Survey
The General Plan Update process is at an exciting stage! Based on input from the first stage of community outreach, preliminary ideas and concepts are being developed to get the community’s input before preparation of a final Preferred Plan, which will then form the basis for detailed General Plan policies.
Your feedback in this survey will help craft a General Plan that builds upon the livability in Napa, ensuring that the community reflects the vision of being inclusive, family-friendly, balanced, sustainable, and flexible to adapt to changing future circumstances. Additional community-wide outreach events will continue help shape the Preferred Plan Concept.

Important Message from Napa SanDon't Flush Those Wipes!Due to the spread of the coronavirus and panic buying of toilet paper, many people have found themselves having to use wipes, tissues, napkins, and paper towels as toilet paper substitutes. At NapaSan, these toilet paper alternatives are causing worry about the health of the sewer system. Unlike toilet paper, which is engineered to dissolve quickly in water, wipes, tissues, paper towels, and napkins are made of fibers that do not break down in the sewer system. These items can clog pipes in residences, cause clogs within the sewer system, get stuck in equipment on the way to the wastewater treatment plant, or cause problems at the treatment facility itself. Wipes and other items can also combine with other materials in the sewer to create large, costly sewer back-ups that can harm public health and the environment. Even though the packaging of some wipes claim these items are flushable, they are not, and need to be disposed of in the trash. Proper disposal of wipes and other toilet paper alternatives once they are used is very important, and the proper place to dispose of these items is the trash- not the toilet. In addition to using wipes as toilet paper substitutes, many people are utilizing disinfecting wipes for cleaning surfaces within their homes and offices. The same disposal rules apply to disinfecting wipes. They are made of woven materials that are much too strong to break down in the sewer system, and they must go in the trash once they have been used. We need the community’s help to avoid any major problems and keep our sewer system healthy. Always remember- the toilet is not a trash can! If it is not human waste or toilet paper- please do not flush it!
