Fire Marshal Reminds Residents That Fireworks Prohibited in NapaThe City of Napa reminds residents that the sale, discharge or possession of fireworks, even the so-called "safe and sane" variety, is illegal in the cities of Napa, American Canyon and Calistoga, the Town of Yountville, and all unincorporated areas of Napa County.
Firecrackers, bottle rockets, Roman candles and other devices that explode, move along the ground, or travel through the air are classified as dangerous fireworks and are banned throughout the State of California. Pursuant to California Health and Safety Code section 12721 and Napa Municipal Code Chapter 8.04, Fireworks found in the city will be confiscated and persons found using or possessing fireworks may be issued a citation. This warning also applies to fireworks purchased elsewhere and brought into Napa.
In 2011, an estimated 17,800 reported fires were started by fireworks across the nation. These fires resulted in an estimated 40 civilian injuries and $32 million in direct property damage. In the same year, 9,600 fireworks-related injuries were treated in U.S. hospital emergency rooms. One-quarter (26%) of the victims of fireworks injuries in 2011 were under age 15. Sparklers, which can reach temperatures of more than 1,000 degrees, are responsible for most injuries involving children under the age of 5. Further statistical information can be found at the California State Fire Marshal website.
For your enjoyment, the Club of Napa Sunrise Rotary will be celebrating 4th of July virtually by traveling the City and doing live interviews (social distancing, of course) and showcasing businesses, families and neighborhoods. For more information, please visit https://www.napa4thofjulyparade.com/

Napa County's Resilience RoadmapThere are a lot of questions out there about the recent increase in cases and what that means for the County's shelter at home order. Napa County has introduced a new dashboard for the public to see how Napa County is doing in meeting metrics related to controlling the spread of COVID-19, ensuring that the health care system can handle new COVID-19 cases, and protecting the most vulnerable. These indicators have been identified by Napa County and the California Department of Public Health and inform decisions made by Napa County on when and how various sectors may reopen and operate. Data is updated every Saturday. We encourage you to check the data regularly and stay informed.
You can view the easy-to-read COVID-19 Response Dashboard on their website.

The duo’s 30-second creation “We All Live Down River” captured this year’s contest theme, I Save Our Water Because, through art and music including their own original song! Giulia, a Napa High sophomore, and her mother will get to see their winning video up on the big screen later this year. It will be shown as a public service announcement as part of the pre-show program for one week at the Century Napa Valley Theatre once it reopens. They will also receive a $100 gift card for Century Napa Valley. Congratulations also go out to this year’s 2nd place winners from the Vintage High School Thirst Project, who didn’t let sheltering at home stop them from their collaborative effort! Originally restricted to high school students, this fifth annual video contest was opened up to sheltering families and all ages groups in response to school campus closures and the Shelter-at-Home Order. Contest sponsors include the Cities of Napa, American Canyon, St. Helena, and Calistoga, the Town of Yountville, Napa County, and the Napa County Resource Conservation District (RCD). Final judging was conducted by representatives from the City of Napa, NapaSan, the County, and the RCD.
