Testing Update from Napa County Public Health There is a significant demand on testing nationwide that is causing delays in lab processing and the timely delivery of test results.
The testing site at the Napa Expo is run by the State of California through a contract with life sciences and healthcare company Verily. Verily’s Project Baseline provides the mass COVID-19 testing in Napa County, and we were fortunate to be identified by the State as one of over eighty mass test sites in California.
After a test is administered, Verily sends its tests to one of the two most commonly used labs in California, Quest Diagnostics or LabCorp. The lab then sends results to PWN Health, a telemedicine group responsible for providing medical oversight. Because of the current high demand for testing, test results can be delayed—sometimes up to two weeks or more. Napa County is notified of test results once the lab results are electronically reported to the California Department of Public Health’s system, “CalREDIE.”
Napa County leadership understands and shares the public’s frustration over the delay in test results. Napa County continues to engage with the State of California on seeking solutions to the backlog of test results. However, given the nationwide demand for tests, this is a challenge that requires solutions beyond the State of California. We thank you for your continued patience and for your understanding of the County’s role in the testing process.

Temporary Road Closure: Main Street between Second and Third StreetsHEADS UP! Main Street between Second and Third Streets will be closed to vehicle traffic beginning tomorrow morning. This temporary closure will help provide additional space for pedestrians to properly social distance when visiting many of our local restaurants and Veterans Park, which make up this busy downtown block. To ensure everyone’s safety, the following measures will be taken: - Barricades and traffic control signage will be placed to alert drivers of the change.
- The traffic signal programming at both adjacent intersections will be adjusted to accommodate the temporary closure.
And remember, if you are planning on spending time away from home, be a good #NapaNeighbor and wear your mask, wash your hands and maintain 6’ of distance from others!

Napa Al Fresco - In Full Swing Have you heard of Napa Al Fresco? Well, it is in full swing here in Napa! One component of the Napa Al Fresco program is the Downtown and Oxbow Parklet Grant Program, with some great examples pictured below of Norman Rose Tavern and Filippi's Pizza Grotto Napa.
The Napa Downtown Property and Business Improvement District (PBID) has allocated $140,000 to the Downtown and Oxbow Parklet Grants Program to support our local businesses with the design, development, and installation of a parklet or shared space in the downtown area. Downtown and Oxbow District businesses will be able to apply for reimbursable grants of up to $5,000 to help finance the cost of implementing their Shared Spaces/Parklet design.
Napa Al Fresco’s goal is to support our local restaurants and provide a safe outdoor dining experience for everyone - and all city applications are free of charge to our local businesses. Wondering what other resources are out there to help YOUR local business? For information about Napa Al Fresco and applications, go to: https://www.cityofnapa.org/937/Outdoor-Dining-and-Parklets or email outdoorus [email protected]To inquire about the Downtown and Oxbow Parklet Grants program, contact Craig Smith at [email protected].
