Unhealthy Air Quality The Napa Valley continues to experience very unhealthy air quality due to smoke from the ongoing fire activity. Please stay indoors as much as possible.
To decrease your exposure to wildfire smoke and to limit harmful effects from smoke and COVID-19, follow these measures:
- Limit your time outside and stay indoors as much as possible. While inside, please wear face coverings to prevent the spread of COVID-19
- If possible, seek shelter in buildings with filtered air OR move to areas outside the region less impacted by wildfire smoke until smoke levels subside.
- Keep your windows and doors closed unless it’s extremely hot outside.
- Run your home or car air conditioner on recycle or recirculate. Keep the fresh air intake closed and the filter clean to prevent bringing additional smoke inside. If you are transporting people outside of your household, please wear face coverings to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
- If you or your children have asthma or other lung disease, make sure you follow your doctor’s directions about taking your medicines and following your asthma management plan. Call your doctor for advice if symptoms worsen or consider leaving the area.
- If you must remain outdoors and you are concerned about wildfire smoke, consider using an N95 respirator mask. Please note that these masks do not protect young children and only provides some protection in adults. Please note that cloth face coverings for COVID-19 will not protect the wearer from wildfire smoke.
- Please see “Wildfire Smoke and Face Masks”.

Playgrounds Now Open in Napa Remember to Follow COVID-19 Health & Safety Protocols When Enjoying Our Parks We have some good news to share, Napa! Due to the hard work by our Parks crews, our playgrounds are now open! Our crews have been working diligently to remove the ash and dust from our playground equipment, so that we could open the playgrounds up as soon as possible – but remember, we must all follow social distancing and good hygiene protocol! When visiting our playgrounds, please:
- SANTIZE OR WASH YOUR HANDS: Bring your hand sanitizer to use before, during, and after play. Our restrooms are also opened to allow for frequent hand washing.
- WEAR A MASK: Wear your face coverings when other households are present, and parents/guardians should distance themselves by 6-feet from other adults.
- KEEP YOUR DISTANCE: Most importantly, please maintain distance with other park users. When you arrive, and it appears that there is not enough room to keep enough distance between you and other park users, please wait your turn or come back later. If you notice a group of families waiting their turn, please be gracious and limit your time at high use playgrounds to allow others a chance to play!
Please note that equipment will not be sanitized, as this is impractical to do for all 33 of our playgrounds. Also, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has advised spraying disinfectant on playground equipment in parks is not believed to be an efficient use of disinfectant supplies and has not been proven to reduce the risk of COVID-19 to the public. Good hygiene practices are an area of personal responsibility, and we are confident our families will use the playgrounds safely.
