Kennedy Park Clean UpThe health and safety of all those that live and work in Napa, including those who are experiencing homelessness, is of the utmost importance to the City of Napa.
With wildfire season and drought conditions upon us, protecting the community, including our infrastructure and park facilities, from fire danger is critical.
Last week, the City, along with Yerba Buena Engineering and Construction, worked for three days to remove excess garbage and waste, as well as any flammable, combustible or ash-producing items, such as firewood, propane tanks, lumber, and open flame fire pits from encampments in Kennedy Park.
Permanent housing is always the desired outcome of the homeless services system, but as we develop long-term solutions, we comply with state and federal policy on unsheltered homelessness. No one was displaced during this event. The Homeless Outreach Teams were onsite to provide connections to services, including shelter and housing resources.
This clean up helps bring us a step closer to protecting everyone in our community from preventable fires, and also keeps those experiencing homelessness safe until they can be connected with housing.
A special thanks to our folks in our Parks, Public Works, Police, and Fire Departments for their hard work to make the area safer for the community.

Lake Hennessey Boat Launch Closed for the Season The City of Napa has closed the Lake Hennessey Boat Launch (dock) for the season. Record-low water levels at Lake Hennessey due to the region’s current drought make it necessary to close the boat launch for the safety of the public and to protect the lake’s water quality. The boat ramp has become too shallow and is forcing boaters to enter the Lake with their vehicle in order to launch their boats, which can potentially affect the water quality. As always, bodily contact or walking in the water while launching kayaks or canoes from the shore or boat dock is prohibited. Since Lake Hennessey is a municipal water supply, users must follow Boating Regulations and swimming and paddleboarding are not permitted. The Lake Hennessey Boat Dock parking lot will remain open. The boat dock is likely to stay closed until December or later, depending on the quantity of winter rain the region receives and the Lake’s levels. The City of Napa’s Water Division will continue to monitor the Lake’s levels and adjust closures accordingly. The Napa City Council declared a Moderate Water Shortage on May 4, and on July 20 enacted regulations that limit outdoor irrigation to two days per week. Napa’s Utilities Department is working to help residents make every drop count and reduce their personal water consumption through conservation tips, financial incentives, free water-saving devices, and educational opportunities. Visit the City’s Water Conservation page to learn more.
