Removal of Garbage and Fire Hazards

|
The City of Napa is committed to ensuring that Napa is a safe and healthy place for all of our community members. Napa Staff and City Contractors spent three days removing garbage and fire hazards from homeless encampments on City owned property.
Campers and their personal belongings were not disturbed or disrupted during this effort, and all campers were offered services and access to shelter. Over 80 cubic yards of trash and 20 cubic yards of wood material was removed from public property. Propane tanks, used tires, and hundreds of used batteries were also removed and properly disposed of. Pictured above is the before and after of the Jefferson Street Bridge cleanup site.
The City would like to extend a big thank you to Park Ranger Dave Hummer for coordinating the majority of this effort. Ranger Hummer personally spent several hours removing small batteries and hundreds of pieces of micro trash from under the Jefferson Bridge.

Not sure what you can discard on Drug Take Back Day? Residents are encouraged to bring their unused or expired over the counter and prescription medications (tablets, capsules, inhalers and liquids) to one of six collection locations throughout Napa County. Please remove or black out any personal information on medication containers before dropping them off. Additionally, these one-day collection sites can legally accept federally designated “controlled” substances that include many highly addictive prescription medications (morphine and OxyContin) as well as illegal narcotics (LSD and ecstasy).
Home-generated medical sharps (needles, syringes, epinephrine auto-injectors, etc.) will also be accepted for disposal at all the October 23 sites. Please transport sharps in an approved container obtained from a physician or pharmacy, or a tightly sealed, lea- and puncture-resistant container with a lid - and label the container as "SHARPS" for safety.
On Saturday October 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., turn in your used sharps and unused or expired medication free and anonymously.
