Abode Services

Community Recovery Bank Spotlight: Abode Services

This month the City of Napa awarded $1.125 million of Community Recovery Bank funds to organizations in Napa that benefit our community. The first organization that we would like to highlight is Abode Services!

Abode Services is an organization that aims to end homelessness by assisting low-income, un-housed people, including those with special needs, to secure stable, supportive housing, and advocates for the removal of the causes of homelessness. They provide housing programs and social services to more than 500 people experiencing homelessness throughout Napa County.

They plan to use their grant funds to:

  • Subsidize 6 months of rent for clients in active addiction recovery programs
  • Cover one-time costs to house people or keep them housed: security deposits, utility bills, move-in costs, etc.
  • Fill needs raised by the South Napa Shelter expansion from 69 to 104 beds including furniture, storing client belongings, and adding security cameras.

Addressing homelessness was one of the top priorities identified by Napa residents and we are excited to see how these funds will help Abode Services build on our supportive housing goals.

Keep It Loose

Volunteer Opportunity: French Broom Removal at Westwood Hills Park This Weekend

Join the City of Napa, the Friends of Westwood Hills Park, and the Napa County Resource Conservation District (Napa RCD) for a series of invasive plant removal days at Westwood Hills Park!

French Broom is an invasive plant that needs to be removed regularly to allow native plant species to survive and thrive. These invasive plant removal days are scheduled over the next three months - the next volunteer opportunity will be held on Saturday, March 25th from 9 AM - 12 PM.

All you have to do is:

-Register to volunteer at www.napaRCD.org/events

-Wear sturdy shoes, long sleeves, and pants, as well as layers appropriate for the weather

-Bring gardening gloves, if you have them (all supplies will be provided!)

Tell your friends and neighbors and ask them to join you - the more volunteers we have, the more we can get done! There are two events left this spring - Saturday, March 25th and Saturday, April 29! Together we can keep Westwood Hills Park clear of this noxious weed!
