Community Recovery Bank Spotlight: NEWS
The City of Napa awarded Community Recovery Bank funds to organizations in Napa that benefit our community. One of those amazing organizations is NEWS!
For the past 41 years, NEWS has served as the only domestic violence (DV) and sexual abuse (SA) shelter-based organization for Napa County. NEWS' SA services represent the Rape Crisis Center for Napa County. Their goal is to overcome barriers and disparities in high-risk populations impacted by DV/SA and is the front-line of DV/SA assistance in Napa County.
NEWS has experienced a 30% increase in DV/SA survivors seeking housing services due to COVID-19. Advocate-led case management helps survivors identify pathways to self-sufficiency and financial assistance to cope with their trauma. They will use their grant funds to support NEWS' third bilingual case manager in order to meet this increase in demand by:
- Completing in-depth case management
- Referring clients to community resources
- Distributing subsidies to cover rent, back owed rent, and move in expenses
- Engaging landlords to welcome their clients as tenants
We are excited to see how these funds will help NEWS aid our community. Learn more about NEWS at: https://www.napanews.org/
