Arbor Day

National Public Lands Day

Saturday, September 28, 2019

Come make a lasting impact to our community’s park system!  This year’s National Public Lands Day will be held on September 28th combining three fun events in one day!

Arbor Day
The City of Napa will be hosting our 30th annual Arbor Day celebration. The City of Napa is a certified Tree City USA. To maintain this status and celebrate our public lands, the City coordinates a volunteer effort to plant trees in the community. Volunteers will learn about tree species that are better suited to the Napa climate and proper planting techniques while providing a valuable service to the community. We will be planting numerous new trees in the park and need volunteers of all ages to come out and help us celebrate. To register to participate, please contact our volunteer coordinator at (707) 257-9960. Please arrive and check in by 9:00 a.m.

Bike Your Park Day
In partnership with the Adventure Cycle Association and the Napa Bicycle Coalition, the City of Napa will host a free guided bike tour starting at Kennedy Park at 10:00 AM. The route will be approximately 9 miles and travel along the Vine Trail through numerous city parks including historic Fuller Park while looping back to Kennedy Park. The tour includes biking through the Railroad Arts District. Please register in advance here!

Public Lands Service Projects
In addition to planting trees, there will be several other service projects taking place in Kennedy Park on September 28th. The park improvements will include projects at the Formal Gardens, skate park and duck pond. We are looking for community members to sign up to assist our park staff while we improve these areas. Projects will take place between 9:00 AM and 1:00  PM. To register to volunteer, contact our volunteer coordinator at (707)257-9960.

Music, entertainment and refreshments will be part of the fun. Updated information can be found on our website and social media pages. We hope to see you there!

Recycle

rePlanet Recycling Buy Back Center Now Closed

As part of nationwide closures of 284 centers, rePlanet's recycling buy back center on Jackson Street is now closed.

But don’t give up hope that what you are recycling in the Napa Valley is actually being recycled – because it is!
You still have two local options to get your CRV back and a third option to ensure it is recycled.

Blue Front Recycling
2877 Solano Avenue
Mon-Sat: 9 AM – 4:30 PM with a half-hour lunch around noon
916-519-2040

Devlin Road Reuse & Recycle Center
889B Devlin Road, American Canyon
M-Sat: 8:30 am- 3:30 pm
707-258-9005

Both centers are State-Certified CRV (California Redemption Value) buy back centers that are open and running, ready to pay you back for your recyclables.

If CRV isn’t important to you, putting them into your blue curbside recycling cart will ensure they will be recycled – they head to the City-owned Recycling and Composting facility down the road in American Canyon and are sorted out and bailed to be recycled. Napa Recycling’s curbside program also accepts non-CRV containers like glass wine bottles and other empty plastic bottles (like condiments or shampoo bottles).  Note: if you put them into your landfill container they will NOT be recycled.

With the constant bad news about recycling from China not accepting materials to the pollution in our waterways, remember that bottles and cans are some of the BEST and EASIEST materials to recycle. Recycled aluminum cans can be back on the shelf in as little as 60 days and recycling ONE can saves enough energy to run a computer for 3 hours.  When you consider plastic bottles, it can be recycled into a myriad of things – clothes, new plastic bottles, carpets, and more.

So don’t despair, continue to recycle! Not sure what can or can’t be recycled in Napa’s curbside program? Please visit www.napareycling.com for a full list of what is accepted and not accepted in your blue bin.

Water Quality report 2019

2018 Drinking Water Quality Report

Once again in 2018, City of Napa tap water met all stringent U.S. EPA and State health standards. Print copies of the City of Napa’s latest Drinking Water Quality Report are now available. Since June, a web version of the report has been posted on the City Water page, www.cityofnapa.org/water. Water customers were alerted of the direct web address for the electronic document, www.cityofnapa.org/DocumentCenter/View/5251, by a printed message on their spring water bills. Along with summarizing regulated substances and water treatment tasks, the report describes our source waters, the importance of protecting our watersheds, and the benefits of chlorination.

For customers without computer access, print copies of the 2018 Drinking Water Quality Report may be picked up at the Water Division, 1340 Clay Street, and at the Finance-Collection windows in City Hall, 955 School Street. These paper copies will also be mailed upon request by calling 707-257-9521.

The City continues to primarily use an electronic distribution method for this report, saving resources and ratepayer funds while still communicating to customers about the health and safety of their tap water.
