Friday July 23, 2010 Preliminary work began today on a new traffic signal at Eighth Street andSoscol Avenue. The signal will provide safe traffic movement for a detouraround the closure of Third Street during railroad relocation for the FloodProject. The addition of a signal atthis location is similar to the changes made earlier at the intersection ofSoscol and McKinstry Street to facilitate the detour during the First Streetclosure. Left turnpockets on south bound and north bound Soscol are required as part of thesignalization. To widen the roadway and create room for the turn pockets,on-street parking along Soscol will be removed from Eighth Street to SixthStreet and about 120 feet south of Eighth Street on both sides ofSoscol Avenue. Constructionof the signal will take place over the next three weeks with a target date foractivation of the signal during the week of August 16 when the Third Streetclosure begins. |
