City awarded Historic Preservation grant

The City of Napa has been awarded a $25,000 Historic Preservation Grant for 2009.  The State Office of Historic Preservation received 15 applications for this funding and approved only nine.
 
This competitive grant was awarded to the City of Napa and its Cultural Heritage Commission to build on the successful 2008 Grant which was used to begin the process of updating Napa’s Inventory of Historic Buildings.

Fourth of July means more emergency calls

Celebrating our nation’s independence is a time to come together with neighbors, friends and family and enjoy time outside. We enjoy barbeques, swimming in our favorite water source, playing outdoor sports and having an occasional adult beverage. 

The men and woman of the Napa City and County Public Safety agencies celebrate the nation’s independence by answering people’s calls for emergency help. The Fourth of July traditionally brings an increased number of 911 calls into dispatch centers in Napa. These calls include alcohol involved accidents located on both land and water. Calls range from car, motorcycle and boat crashes; bodily injury caused by falls, fireworks, fire and drowning and near drowning.

Police plan July Fourth crackdown on drunk drivers

Napa County Avoid the 9 DUI Campaign Task Force today announced its officers will be out in full force during the Fourth of July holiday period, cracking down on impaired drivers with an aggressive Drunk Driving. Over the Limit. Under Arrest enforcement blitz. “Driving while drunk isn’t worth the tremendous risk. No matter your age, if you’ve had too much holiday spirit, you’d better find a safe and sober ride home or your chances of arrest are high,” said Chief Melton of the Napa Police Department.

MADD honors officers for their DUI arrests

Napa area CHP, Napa Police, American Canyon Police, Saint Helena Police and Calistoga Police Officers were among some 100 of their fellow officers from Napa, Sonoma, Solano and Marin Counties honored at a recent luncheon presented by Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (MADD) at the Lodge in Sonoma.  MADD recognized the officers for the number of DUI arrests they made in 2008.
Napa Police Officer Alfonso Ortiz was responsible for taking 24 drunk drivers off the streets with Officer Mike Fullmore logging another 22 arrests.

Fourth of July Festival comes to Downtown Napa

This year's Fourth of July Festival kicks off with a parade at 11:30am, sponsored by Sunrise Napa Rotary club. The parade route will be east on Third Street, then south on Main Street to Fifth Street. The Festival kicks off at 1:00pm with entertainment in Veteran's Memorial Park amphitheatre. The Brian Cline Band  will perform, followed by Alvon Johnson and his All-Star Band, and  headlining this year is The Time Bandits. Family Entertainment from the Napa School of Music will be featured from 5-7pm. A special welcome from the mayor will take place at 7:30pm followed by a ceremony from the Travis Air Force Base color guard. Youth Bands will be on stage from 7-9pm. The spectacular fireworks display is set for  9:30pm. All through the day festivities include food, beer and wine, art and craft vendors and free activities for the kids and the whole family.
