There’s a type of
thievery going on in Napa
that many residents and business people ignore – a type of organized crime that has the
potential to increase costs for all of us. It’s the theft of recyclable
materials, and it’s happening every week right under our noses.
Recyclable materials at your
workplace or home belong to you. You may choose to take your cans and bottles
to a recycling buyback center and be paid for their California Redemption Value
(CRV) or you may choose to put your recyclables in a commercial-sized recycling
bin or blue cart from Napa Recycling & Waste Services (NRWS) and leave it
for pickup. Once those materials are in the bin or blue cart, only you or NRWS
have the right to remove them.

The
City of Napa
celebrates Smart Irrigation Month (www.smartirrigationmonth.org)
by launching its 2008 Water-Wise Landscaping Workshop Series. With outdoor
water use totaling more than half of Napa’s annual consumption, more efficient
irrigation is key to a positive water future.
July
workshop sessions will provide efficient watering strategies at the peak of the
irrigation season. The series continues in September to emphasize proper
water-wise site preparation and plant selection in advance of the fall planting
season. Each workshop features expert presenters, free water-saving devices,
literature, and door prizes.
Workshops
are held at the Pelusi Building in Kennedy Park
from 6:30 to 8:30 pm on the dates shown. Call
707-257-9309 to reserve a space for any of these dates.
