Boy Scouts collect over 25 tons of e-waste PDF Print E-mail

On Saturday, March 20,2010 the Boy Scouts of America, Napa Valley District conducted a fundraisingcommunity service collection of electronic waste at the curb from homes in Napa,Yountville, St. Helena, and Calistoga.  The event resulted in the collection of over25 tons of electronic waste.

The items collected included:

  • computers, monitors, laptops, keyboards, printers, mouse, cables
  • fax machines, copiers, scanners
  • televisions, flat screens, VCRs, tape players, stereo equipment, radios
  • telephones, PDAs, cell phones
  • microwaves, blenders, food processors, toasters, coffee makers

The material collected was assessed for reuse opportunities by Napa Valley Computers to Schools and the remainder was sent to Electronic Recyclers International. 

Residents who missed the curbside e-waste collection can drop off e-waste daily at no charge at the Napa Recycling & Composting Facility at 820 Levitin Way, off Highway 29 just north of the City of American Canyon, or at Clover Flat Landfill on Silverado Trail, just south of the City of Calistoga. Residents can also have their e-waste collected curbside for a fee any time of year by calling Napa Recycling & Waste Services at 255-5200.  Residents will also have the opportunity to drop off e-waste at the City of Napa’s 10th annual e-waste collection event to be held on June 11 and 12. 

The Boy Scouts’ e-waste collection was sponsored by Napa Recycling & Waste Services, the City of Napa, Upper Valley Disposal Service, Electronic Recyclers International and Napa Valley Computers to Schools.
