Group Swim Lesson Schedules

The following swim level descriptions are guidelines that the PRS Aquatics Staff uses to place your swimmer in the appropriate swim lesson.  All swimmers will be assessed and placed into groups according to skill level on the first day of their lesson.

TADPOLE (3 – 5 yrs):       These are small group classes for the beginning swimmers ages 3 – 5 yrs. Classes are designed to teach water orientation, breath holding, rhythmic bobbing, and assisted front float and back float & beginning crawl stroke.

LEVEL 1 & 2:                     These are group classes for the beginning swimmers ages 5 years and older.  Classes are designed to teach water adjustments, rhythmic breathing, crawl stroke, back float, combined stroke, and safety skills.

LEVEL 3 & 4:                       These are group classes for the advanced beginner swimmers. Classes are designed to teach survival float, breath control, treading water, crawl stroke, elementary backstroke, safety and rescue skills.

LEVEL 5, 6 & 7:                   These are group classes for the intermediate and advanced swimmers.  The class emphasis is placed on the coordination of whole strokes in order for students to swim more effectively, with more ease, relaxation, and for greater distances.  Coordinated stroking, surface dives, butterfly, breaststroke, improved elementary backstroke, treading water, inverted scissors kick, sculling, turns, underwater swimming, basic rescue techniques, and combined skills.

Private Swim Lessons

Private lessons are great for the child who learns quickly and would benefit from being able to set their own learning pace.  This class also provides a chance for the more hesitant swimmer to become proficient in their swimming abilities without the crowds.  All swim levels are welcome in our private lessons, but please note that Redwood and Harvest Pools can only accommodate up to level 4.

  Parent/Child – Water Orientation

These classes are designed to introduce the parent and their child (age 6 months – 3 years) to the water together.  They are intended to develop comfort in and around the water, as well as readiness for learning to swim.  Blowing bubbles, floating, dipping, paddling, kicking, water orientation & pool safety will be facilitated.  A parent must accompany the child at all times. Children should wear swimsuits, sunscreen and training pants if needed.

Napa Junior Guard – Guard Start Programs

Boys and Girls, ages 11 to 14 years, have the opportunity to challenge themselves both mentally and physically through a series of classroom sessions, in-water training, on-deck drills, and actual hands-on learning in the area of guarding.  This program has been designed to stress and promote responsibility, decision-making, and the ability to perform learned tasks.  This will be a summer to remember, filled with fun, excitement and challenges that will prepare participants for many future successes.

Junior Guard I

The Junior Guard I program is based on progressive learning of skills and therefore it is extremely important that the Junior Guard and their parents be committed to the entire program.  Sign up early, as space is limited!  All Junior Guards will receive a T-Shirt and all of the required texts.  Areas to be covered include (but not certified): First Aid, CPR, Lifeguard Training and Water Safety Instruction

Junior Guard II

This program has been designed for those who have successfully completed the Junior Guard I program and would like to put their new skills to the test.  In addition to being further conditioned, the participants will have the opportunity to:  1. Shadow Guard at the pools; 2. Play an active role in emergency evacuation drills.  Junior Guard II participants will be given actual hands-on experience.  The program will be based at the Napa High Pool, but will use the other pools for off-site instruction.  This is truly an opportunity to experience the rewards and responsibilities of life-guarding and swim instructing.  Program cost includes a T-Shirt, whistle and all required texts.

Pre-Competitive Swim Workout

This program has been designed to provide the advanced swimmer the opportunity to take their skills to the next level, without the long-term commitment of a regular swim team.  Focus will be made on the fine tuning of strokes & increasing endurance.  Swimmers must be "Deep Water Safe,” must be able to perform a 25-yard Freestyle Stroke and a 25-yard Basic Back Stroke.
