A delegation representing the City of Launceston, Tasmania, Australia is visiting  Napa this week, marking the twentieth anniversary of the Napa-Launceston Sister City relationship.

Upcoming events and activities planned for the visiting group include:
  • Thursday May 1: A tour of the City on foot and by trolley, and a tour of Napa Valley College
  • Friday May 2: Lunch on the Napa Valley Wine Train hosted by CEO Greg McManus, and a visit to COPIA.
Organizations assisting the Napa-Launceston Sister City Committee with hospitality for the visitors include the Napa Chamber of Commerce, Napa Valley Conference and Visitors Bureau, Kiwanis Club of Napa, and various civic-minded individuals.

Sister City programs assist in the exchange of ideas, the development of friendships in other cultures, provide the chance to open new dialogues in improving the quality of urban life, and promote the exploration of city policy.
Many local governments who conduct Sister City programs are taking a role in internationalizing their local economies by identifying services available, and shared interests and resources.

The City of Napa endorsed Launceston as an official Sister City on May 31, 1988 through the adoption of Resolution 88-139.
