The City Clerk office has announced that applications are being accepted for openings on the Cultural Heritage Commission and the Civil Service Commission. There are two open seats on the Cultural Heritage Commission, and one opening on the Civil Service Commission. For all openings, the deadline for submission of an application is 5pm June 2, 2008.

The Cultural Commission is an advisory body on the designation of landmarks and historic districts. Members have a demonstrated interest, competence or knowledge of historic preservation and the cultural resources of the city. Applicants from the following fields are encouraged to apply: architecture, landscape architecture, history, architectural history, rehabilitation construction, urban planning, American studies, cultural geography, pre-historic and historic archaeology, folklore or cultural anthropology, conservation or other historic preservation-related disciplines. Napa residents and registered voters of the City of Napa preferred.

The Civil Service Commission makes, amends and repeals rules and regulations for classified service. The Commission acts in an administrative capacity to the City Council on problems concerning personnel administration, hears appeals submitted by any person in the classified service relative to any situation connected with his employment status or condition of employment, and holds hearings and makes recommendations to the City Council on the adoption or revision of the position classification plan. The Commission recommends all salaries to the Council for action.
