Resurfacing of a number of residential streets will take place the week of October 6. The Annual Street Resurfacing project consists of asphalt-rubber chip seal application, slurry seal application, crack filling and restriping. The asphalt-rubber chip seal application will commence according to the schedule below. The slurry seal application will begin approximately one week after the chip seal.

Click on "Read More" for project details and a list of the streets where this work will take place.

The asphalt-rubber chip seal consists of a liquid asphalt-rubber that is sprayed onto the street followed immediately by small aggregate rock called “chip” being placed on the asphalt-rubber and then rolled into the liquid.  The street is then swept several times to remove any loose chips.  The liquid asphalt rubber is approximately 20% rubber by weight.  For this project approximately 10,500 used tires will be recycled and used for this resurfacing treatment.  Approximately one week after the asphalt-rubber chip seal has been placed, a slurry seal will then be applied.  The slurry seal covers the rough finish left by the chip seal and provides additional protection for the street.  The combination of these two applications provides for a strong durable surface, improves skid resistance, and extends the life of the street.  Please note the asphalt-rubber chip seal surface is very rough but will be smoothed once the slurry seal is applied.

To apply the asphalt-rubber chip seal, the roads listed above will be posted “No Parking” on the dates indicated between the hours of 7am – 5pm.  Please be aware that cars parked in areas posted with “No Parking” signs will be towed at the owners expense.  All residents of these streets will have been mailed notification of this work and will be given additional information.  Emergency access will be maintained at all times.

The work will be performed by International Surfacing Systems of Modesto, CA.  The Asphalt-Rubber Chip Seal application schedule and streets affected are as follows:

PLEASE NOTE that this schedule could change due to unexpected weather or construction problems, resulting in some delays or re-scheduling of a street to a completely different day.  If a street is not resurfaced on its originally scheduled day, the street will be moved to the end of the project schedule.  This is done so that the next day’s schedule is maintained and proper notification can be made to affected residents.  The City will try to avoid such inconveniences if at all possible.  In all cases, residents will be notified of rescheduled dates 48 hours in advance through notification by the contractor and the presence of blockades the day before resurfacing operations begin.

The City of Napa appreciates your patience and cooperation during construction.  If you have any questions or need additional information, please contact Mike Socorro of the Public Works Department at 257-9520, ext. 7305.
