Napa County District Attorney Gary Lieberstein and Napa Police Chief Richard Melton announced today that several individuals have been charged with murder and other crimes in the shooting death of Ricardo Gonzalez that occurred on December 3rd, 2007.

Stephen Barrios, Christian Gallegos, Raymond Almodobar, and Danny Ortega have all been charged with one count of murder and one count of participating in a criminal street gang along with enhancements regarding participating or facilitating a criminal street gang. The charges carry the possible maximum penalty of life in prison.

Gallegos, Almodobar and Ortega were arrested by police today and are in custody at the Napa Department of Corrections with bail amounts set at $5,000,000.00 for Barrios and Ortega and $3,000,000.00 for Gallegos and Almodobar. Stephen Barrios is serving time in state prison on an unrelated case and will be transferred to Napa County’s Detention Center for further criminal proceedings.

The charges stem from a gang fight and shooting that occurred on the evening of December 3rd, 2007. Ricardo Gonzalez was shot once in the head after a fight began on Laurel Street in West Napa between Norteno and Sureno gang members. He later died from his injuries received in the shooting.

The public is reminded that criminal charges such as these are allegations only and that all criminal defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they are convicted in Court.

The investigation is on-going and more arrests may be expected. Anyone with information about this crime is encouraged to contact Detective Brian Campagna at the Napa Police Department at 707-257-9567.
