Friday November 7, 2008
Sheet pile work, which will create considerable noise, will take place at the First Street Bridge project Friday November 7 through Tuesday November 11. From Saturday, November 8 through Monday November 10, the contractor will work extended hours, with construction activity taking place from 7am to 12midnight on each of these three dates. Sheet pile work will be allowed from 9am to 7pm on each of these days. The extended work hours are needed in order to meet the critical deadline of completing work on the new bridge piers by November 21.
Meeting specific deadlines is essential to achieving the goal of re-opening First Street by the end of July 2009. The “in-water work window” only allows construction activities to take place in the river between July 1 and Oct 15 each year. (Extensions have been granted to the project to allow completion of the new piers.) The purpose of these restrictions is to protect endangered resources, and as a spawning area for endangered fish species, the Napa River is subject to this regulatory control.
