Curbside Food Composting Program underway

UPDATED Thursday May 21, 2015

Napa residents can now put food scraps and food-soiled paper in the brown compost cart along with yardwaste. NRWS/NCRWS customers have been provided with a kitchen compost pail for convenience in the kitchen, but food scraps and food-soiled paper can go directly into the brown cart. All food scraps, including meat and bones, dairy, bread, fruit and vegetables are accepted. Food-soiled paper, coffee cups, paper towels and napkins, and coffee grounds, filters and tea bags should also be included. Food scraps typically make up over 25% of what households throw away. When you add other compostable items such as paper napkins, coffee grounds and paper cups, it’s easy to see how composting will significantly reduce what we send to the landfill.
