Parks Master Plan workshops this month - Resident input needed

A series of community workshops on the City of Napa’s Parks and Recreation Facilities Master Plan will take place this month. At these workshops, residents can learn more about the Master Plan process and participate in fun, interactive exercises and lively discussion. Workshops will be held:

  • Thursday January 22, 7pm to 9pm, at Harvest Middle School, 2449 Old Sonoma Road
  • Saturday January 24, 10am to noon, at the Napa Senior Center, 1550 Jefferson Street
  • Wednesday January 28, 7pm to 9pm, at Las Flores Community Center, 4300 Linda Vista Avenue

Historic homes workshops coming up

Monday January 5, 2009

The City of Napa will present a series of free educational workshops to assist homeowners and contractors with the preservation and maintenance of historic homes. The workshops will be held in the City Hall Council Chambers, 955 School Street, on January 17 and February 7, 2009 from 9 am to noon on each date. The goal of the workshops is to share information with the public on how to:

  • Preserve the character of historic houses
  • Increase property value
  • Incorporate modern features into older designs

City receives grant for Countywide traffic program

Building on the successes seen in recent years, the ‘Avoid the 9’ taskforce will be bringing more traffic enforcement to Napa County.  New equipment purchases and special traffic enforcement measures are on tap as a result of a recent $372,688 three year grant awarded by the Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) to the Napa Police Department. The Napa Police Department will be administering the grant for the entire county.  Law enforcement in Napa County is dedicated to keeping our roadways safe through both enforcement and education.

Clerk Announces Multiple Board and Commission Openings

The City Clerk office has announced that applications are being accepted for openings on five separate City of Napa Boards, Committees and Commissions. Applicants must be City of Napa residents and registered voters. The deadline for submission of an application is 5pm Monday January 12, 2009, and applicant interviews by the City Council are tentatively scheduled for Thursday January 22, 2009, at 6pm for all of the openings listed below: 

  • City of Napa Housing Authority Board: One opening
  • Community Development Block Grant Committee (CDBG): Two openings
  • Disability Access Board of Appeals: One opening
  • Senior Center Advisory Commission: One opening
  • Tree Advisory Commission: One opening

Napa Police want your seat belt story

The City of Napa Police Department is looking for local stories where seat belts resulted in a happy ending to a dangerous situation.

The use of seat belts and proper car seats for children has increased in recent years, but with Napa currently ranking fifth-worst in the state of California for injury collisions in towns of similar size, the Police Department is seeking greater awareness of the need for seat belts.
