Understanding the Shelter Plus Care Program

Special Program

The Shelter Plus Care Program offers rental assistance in combination with supportive services from other sources, to assist homeless people with disabilities, primarily those with serious mental illness, chronic problems with alcohol and/or drugs, and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), and related diseases.  This program assists approximately 10 households.

Referrals 

Referrals to this program must be made through Health and Human Services. Applicants must continue to receive supportive services from the referring agency and must qualify under the Section 8 criteria.
