[ARCHIVED] Successful Napa Earth Day Diverts 93% of Festival Waste Away from Landfills

EarthDay2019

Napa Earth Day 2019 celebrated the Earth in the best way possible:  93% of the materials generated from the event – such as food scraps, cardboard, napkins and more -  were recycled or composted! This means only 7% of festival waste went to the landfill, as compostable or recyclable serviceware was required by all vendors. 800 reusable bottles were provided with a water bar for refills (no bottled water permitted!), and thousands of festival goers learned how to be better stewards of the environment in all different formats – from food choices, energy conservation, yoga, and dozens of other educational and informational booths.

Organized by the Environmental Education Coalition of Napa County (EECNC), all proceeds from the event went to EECNC bus grants – including all drink sales (all wine and beer sold at the event was graciously donated by Stone Brewing, Tannery Bend, Trade Brewery, Napa Smith, Napa Palisades, and the Vintners Association). As attendees sipped beverages and tasted great food, thousands of dollars were raised for environmentally focused bus grants!

Over 75 organizations were represented at the festival, including City of Napa Recycling, Water Conservation, and Parks and Recreation booths. Napa Fire Department even demonstrated Hands Free CPR to anyone ready to learn.

Through the hard work of organizers, participants, and Zero Waste Service from Valcore Community Recycling – Napa Earth Day was truly a great day!
