The City of Napa has announced that Bret Prebula, Finance Director, has taken a new position with another organization. His last day with the City of Napa will be Friday, June 18th.
“Bret is a long-term strategic thinker, as well as a near-term problem solver, and his skill set has served our community well during his tenure with the City,” says Steve Potter, Napa City Manager. “His calm and thoughtful approach helped our staff and residents navigate many unprecedented issues, especially as they related to the City’s finances.”
Prebula joined the City of Napa in September 2019 and made a number of significant contributions in a short period of time. In 2019, he introduced the Popular Annual Financial Report (PAFR), which helped present complicated municipal finances in an easy to read and understandable format. Under Prebula’s leadership, the City also continued to receive the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting, which recognizes clear communication of City finances. He worked tirelessly to update fiscal policies to ensure the long-term health of the agency, and was a strong champion for technology improvements, such as the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Project and EnerGov. Most importantly, Prebula championed the professional growth and development of the Finance Department staff to support the entire city.
The City is very thankful for his dedicated service to the City of Napa’s employees and community.
In the interim, Finance Manager Elizabeth Cabell will assume the role as Acting Finance Director until a successor is named.
