The City of Napa has chosen a new police chief.
Veteran police officer Captain Robert J. Plummer, who has climbed the ranks of the Las Vegas Metro Police Department for nearly three decades, was named Friday by City Manager Mike Parness as the next police chief for the Napa Police Department.
Plummer, currently Captain of Homicide and Sex Crimes Bureau at Las Vegas Metro Police Department, will succeed Chief Steve Potter after he steps down in July, after 30 years with the Napa Police Department.
This appointment comes after a long and deliberate recruitment process, panel interviews that included members of the community and City staff, and a final review from representatives of the Napa Police Department.
Captain Plummer demonstrated his commitment to service and leadership in his community and in law enforcement over the course of his career in Las Vegas.
“He brings a wealth of knowledge to our City,” says Mike Parness. “His experience in the areas of community policing and major event management, along with a range of assignments throughout the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, will prove valuable in his new role.”
The City looks forward to welcoming Captain Plummer to the Napa Police Department by the end of July, when Chief Potter makes his exit. After 36 years in law enforcement and nearly three years as police chief, Chief Potter has been an integral part of the police department, and Napa as a whole. His level of commitment and dedication to the community, and his department, have proven invaluable. “I am very sorry to see Chief Potter go, as he has been the driver of so much positive change in the Police Department,” says Parness. “But I know he will have great successes in his next chapter as well.”
