NEW NAME, SAME PROJECT
To continue raising the visibility of our community and this initiative, we are freshening up the brand a bit! The founders of the Napa Makes maker event that was held at the Oxbow School in 2018-2019, Jordan Felling, Liz Murray, and Emma K. Morris, have graciously passed the baton of that wonderful name to us; Make it in Napa is now Napa Makes. We felt that the energy and broad reach of that name better encompassed what we’re building here, and to that end, we’ll also be unrolling a logo in the next few weeks. We are planning some exciting events in the upcoming months, and a clear brand image and mark will serve us well.
BAY AREA URBAN MANUFACTURING INITIATIVE (BAUM)
I know I’m preaching to the choir here, but manufacturing provides incredible opportunities for creativity, community, and great jobs! The Bay Area Urban Manufacturing Initiative is a nonprofit that supports, connects, and strengthens our Bay Area manufacturers. We have teamed up with BAUM to promote the visibility of our manufacturers here in Napa, and will be participating in an event to showcase some of those manufacturers during Manufacturing Week this October. We will be inviting elected officials and community stakeholders to shine a light on this important sector of our economy!
MAKERS SPACES + ASSET SHARING
We are actively working with private property owners, developers, and the Napa Valley College on expanding space availability. Specifically, there are a few conversions to makers spaces in the works within the City, and the College has a makers space that will be open to the public pending staffing. I promise to keep you posted on further developments!
Do you need access to a particular tool you don’t own? Are you interested in learning some light programming? Did you clean out your studio and need a place to donate items you’re not using anymore? During my conversations with so many of you, I’ve encountered an incredible willingness to share skills and items. If you have something you’d like to share, including space to rent, let me know! If you have a need, let me know – I can make connections.
CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
The City is calling for submissions for a mural downtown!
