In early 2022, the Napa City Council hosted its annual strategic plan workshop to discuss the importance of effective governance and establish the City’s priorities for the coming year. To kick off the workshop, the Council reviewed its own governance processes and discussed ways to improve their effectiveness as individual Councilmembers and as a team. These include being clear on roles and responsibilities, holding themselves accountable, encouraging open communication with the City Manager, and conducting productive Council meetings.
City staff also reviewed accomplishments and challenges of the last year and provided an overview of the City’s financial outlook. After considerable deliberation on the challenges and opportunities the City faces, the Council reached consensus on the priorities below (in no particular order) for FY 2022-23. Considerable work by the City staff is already underway or planned for each of the focus areas in the upcoming fiscal year.
Climate Change
Workforce Stability
Housing & Homelessness
General Plan & Housing Element
Economic Development
On October 18, 2022, the City Council was presented with a Progress Report with updates on the City's work in these priority areas. You can view a synopsis of this work here. A more detailed report on each priority and the corresponding projects and initiatives can be viewed at www.cityofnapa.org/CouncilPriorities.
