On October 4, 2023, we partnered with New Tech High School and the Napa Valley Transportation Authority to take a group of high school students on a field trip to visit local manufacturers. The field trip coincided with National Manufacturing Week and was designed to inspire local students to consider a career in local manufacturing.
Our first stop was Triton Water Jet
, where owner Kehl shared his story of growing up in Napa, how he found his way to contractor work, and eventually to acquiring this company. Kehl fired up the water jet to show us how it worked.
Next, Andrew of Copper Iron Designs (who happens to have his workshop in the same complex) took a piece that Kehl had cut for him and showed us how he'll use it for one of his custom jobs.
Our next stop was to visit Carlos at 707 Embroidery, a company that began with a sewing machine in a garage and now does everything from custom embroidery to vehicle wraps and everything in-between.
Our final stop was Portocork, where the students got to hear from several of their team members, including President & CEO Dustin Mowe. Their experience included a lab and factory tour.
We are so grateful to our community partners for helping this idea become a reality, and look forward to making it an annual event!
