Open Letter to Our Employees and Community from Napa’s City Manager Steve Potter

Open Letter to Employees and Community

Dear Napa community,

As we welcome a new year, I want to take a moment to share some positive updates and priorities for the upcoming months. The strides we made in 2023 have laid the groundwork for what looks to be an eventful and productive year ahead.

The City of Napa continues to uphold its commitment to financial responsibility. Making informed and prudent financial decisions is essential to maintaining the stability of our city services. I am delighted to announce that our dedication to fiscal responsibility has been recognized with a prestigious Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) award, underscoring the sound financial management practices and dedication to transparency in our community.

The success of our city is a testament to the hard work of our exceptional city employees. Their unwavering commitment to public service, especially during challenging times, deserves recognition. In the coming year, we will continue to celebrate staff achievements and invest in their professional development to ensure a highly skilled and motivated workforce.

Our ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of life in Napa are fueled by the invaluable feedback we receive from the community. I extend my gratitude to all who participated in the community climate survey back in December. Your insights play a crucial role in shaping our initiatives and addressing concerns directly.

At the core of our work is our commitment to serving residents. While tourism remains a vital part of Napa’s economy — not only by reducing City operating costs for residents by providing revenue to our General Fund, but also sustaining local businesses and providing opportunities for funding that promotes local art, culture and beautification — we understand the unique charm of being a local. From standard road maintenance to local space enhancements, our staff is dedicated to improving the daily lives of residents. Follow us on social media for “Napa for Locals,” a series that will delve into our staff’s favorite spots and hidden gems.

Looking ahead, we remain committed to addressing key priorities outlined by our City Council. We will intensify our efforts to address climate change, solutions for housing and homelessness, public infrastructure and traffic safety. In addition, we’ll continue charting the course for our City’s future through the implementation of our General Plan.

Your engagement and support are integral to our success, and we eagerly anticipate another year of collaboration and progress. Thank you for being an essential part of our community. Here's to a year filled with notable accomplishments, growth and shared prosperity.

Best wishes in the new year,

Steve Potter
