The City of Napa's Parks and Recreation Department is excited to announce the start of a citywide tree inventory. We have contracted with Davey Resource Group, Inc (DRG) to complete this inventory beginning in December 2023 and lasting approximately 3 months. During the inventory, DRG’s experienced, qualified urban foresters locate trees, planting sites, and stumps along maintained street right-of-ways and in public parks and properties. The arborists will evaluate those trees and record the data specified by the city.
During data collection, DRG’s urban foresters walk by each tree and inspect the tree from the ground. Based on the conditions at the time of the inspection, DRG’s staff identify the tree's species and its location, measure tree diameter, and rate its health. DRG’s urban foresters also assess tree risk and suggest the specific maintenance involved in mitigating that risk as well as collecting all other information at this time. When data collection for an individual tree is complete, DRG’s urban foresters walk to the next tree and follow the same steps, in the same order, to ensure consistent data collection.
DRG’s urban foresters collect data Monday through Friday and occasionally on weekends but will always be identifiable by their safety vest and hard hats and will carry a badge, if you have any questions, please contact Parks and Recreation Administrative Office at (707) 257-9529.
