July is Parks and Recreation Month

This year we are celebrating PARKS and honoring how critical parks and trails became during this challenging time in history. Here is part of our story:

  • 82% of U.S. adults agree that visiting their local parks, trails and open spaces is essential for their mental and physical well-being during the COVID19 pandemic.
  • Living close to parks and other recreation facilities is consistently related to higher physical activity levels for both adults and youth.
  • The Centers for Disease Control found that increased access to places for physical activity led to a 25.6% increase in people exercising 3 or more times per week.
  • Children that have easy access to a playground are approximately 5 times more likely to have a healthy weight than children that do not have easy access to playgrounds.
  • 92% U.S. adults agree that it is important for youth and young adults to have access to employment opportunities. Park and recreation departments across the country are among the biggest employers of youth.
4th of July

4th of July

Due to uncertainty with COVID-19 and related budgetary impacts, the City of Napa will not host a fireworks display or celebration at Oxbow Commons this year. However, the Parks & Recreation Department will be adding an extra splash of patriotic color to help celebrate Independence Day downtown. With volunteers and staff, we will be hanging bunting and other decorations on the bridges, promenade, and Veteran's Memorial Park. Families and friends are encouraged to stroll downtown and enjoy the festive environment. Fireworks are anticipated to return for 2022!

Harry T. Price Riverwalk

Harry T. Price Riverwalk

The Harry T. Price Riverwalk was dedicated on June 8th. Harry Price (1941-2019) cared about the people of Napa and worked hard to make it a better place for all. His vision and efforts as a successful developer and preservationist helped shape the beautiful downtown Napa that we all know today. His determination helped reimagine the flood control project and he advocated to create a functional and beautiful 16 foot wide pathway along the Napa River. The Harry T Price Riverwalk encompasses the entire promenade between 3rd Street and Riverside Drive.
