Trees and path at Dry Creek Park.

Our Urban Forest makes us healthier!

The Parks & Recreation Department oversees approximately 50,000 public trees at our city parks and along our city streets and public right-a-ways.  These trees are the quiet champions for our community and provide one of the greatest impacts for our public health!  They help us in the following ways:

  • Trees produce oxygen, reduce smog, and enhances a community’s respiratory health
  • Trees help remove carbon dioxide (CO2) and reduces the overall concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere
  • Trees are natural air conditioners and their canopy can reduce temperatures by 6 to 8 degrees
  • Trees capture and slow rainfall, roots filter water and trees reduce storm water runoff which helps reduces flooding

Public Art Fund

Did you know?

The Parks & Recreation Department is kicking off several public art projects including the 1st Street Roundabout public art project.  Have you ever been curious about how public art is funded? The City of Napa has a dedicated Public Art Fund.  This fund was created in conjunction with the City’s Public Art Ordinance that requires commercial developers to dedicate 1% of the project construction costs to public art on their site or to pay the 1% into the Public Art Fund. This fund is used to support permanent public art throughout the community on city property.  The City created a Public Art Master Plan in 2014 to help identify goals and priorities for the Public Art Fund.  Gateways and the roundabouts were identified in the plan as a top priority to enhance the character of Napa and further develop our community’s identity.
