City Manager Mike Parness Announces Retirement

City Manager Mike Parness announced earlier this week he will retire on July 27, 2018, after over 11 years of service to the City of Napa. He had hoped to serve through the rest of the calendar year, but it has become necessary to schedule another knee surgery and delaying further is not an option.

The Napa City Council has appointed Napa Police Chief Steve Potter as the Interim City Manager, which will become effective immediately following the retirement of current City Manager Mike Parness on July 27th. Concurrently with Potter beginning his new responsibilities as Interim City Manager, he will be stepping down from the Police Chief position; and Robert Plummer, recently hired from the Las Vegas Metro Police Department, will begin his service as the new Police Chief for the City of Napa.

Recycling

Recycling Remains as Important as Ever

Recycling (and composting) is more important than ever.  The City of Napa’s recycling rate (more technically known as “landfill diversion” rate) has improved from a 27% rate in 1995 to an estimated 69% rate in 2017 (measured the same way as 1995). That 42% improvement is very real and very important and represents thousands of tons of discarded materials that get recycled or composted and not wasted in a landfill (the City of Napa and south Napa County disposal currently go to Potrero Hills landfill outside of Suisun).

Napa County Impact Survey - take it today!

Napa County may be eligible for housing related disaster relief funding. In order to qualify for funding, the County must demonstrate the economic impacts the 2017 wildfires had on the local workforce and businesses. The County is requesting public participation via survey from individuals impacted by the disaster--whether as a homeowner, renter, employee, business owner or employer. Your participation is greatly appreciated, and will support Napa County’s application for funding.

The survey is anonymous and no personal or identifiable information (name, address, place of employment etc.) is requested. The survey is available in both English and Spanish. Please select “Spanish” from the drop down menu on the left side of the screen to convert the survey to Spanish. Click here to take the survey!
