Join the City of Napa for Arbor Day on Saturday, September 22nd!

Did you know? The City of Napa is a Tree City USA! To maintain this status, the City celebrates Arbor Day by planting trees in the community. This year's 29th annual Arbor Day celebration will be held at Kennedy Park on Saturday, September 22, 2018 from 9 AM to 12 PM. The event will take place on National Public Lands Day, a nationwide event where people can volunteer their time to restore public lands. The focus will be to plant trees in areas that experience heavy recreational use, have had trees removed and there is need for additional shade. Tree types that are better suited to the Napa climate will be planted that day. We will be planting over 160 new trees in the park and are encouraging volunteers of all ages to come out and help us celebrate by planting a tree. Volunteers will also help spread mulch and refresh paint throughout the park, including the rails at the Skate Park. Sponsors will have fun giveaways for volunteers, and lunch will be served - along with musical entertainment when the work is done! Napa County's Resource Conservation District, along with other agencies, will be on hand to provide information about their programs as well.

Bike Your Park Day

Bike Your Park Day - September 29th!

Explore the Railroad Arts District or Skyline Park by bicycle with Parks and Recreation and the Napa County Bike Coalition on Bike Your Park Day, coming up September 29, 2018 at 10 AM.

Beginner and experienced bicyclists are welcome. The rides start and finish at Kennedy Park. The 9 mile Vine Trail ride will go through the Railroad Arts District to see the new murals and then on to Fuller Park to learn about its amazing history. A 6-7 mile alternative route will be provided for mountain bikers wishing to experience the trails in Skyline Park.

Make sure to bring be sure to bring a water bottle. Helmets are required on all rides and children under the age of 14 should be accompanied by an adult. Lunch will be provided to all participants at the end of the ride.

Coming Up: Fall 2018 Water-Wise Landscaping Workshop Series

The Fall 2018 Water-Wise Landscaping Workshop Series kicks off on Wednesday, September 12. The City of Napa is teaming up with the Napa County Resource Conservation District and the UC Master Gardeners to share expertise in drip irrigation, smart sprinkler scheduling, soil improvement, garden design, and climate-appropriate plant selection.

For three consecutive Wednesdays evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at the Pelusi Building in Napa’s Kennedy Park, attendees will hear presentations, get questions answered, access free literature and water-saving tools, and possibly come home with a valuable door prize. Workshops are free, but please register in advance by calling (707) 257-9497, or emailing [email protected]. Workshop details can be found here.

4th Annual Heroes of the Valley Softball Tournament - September 22

The 4th Annual Heroes of the Valley Softball Tournament is coming up on Saturday, September 22nd, from 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM at the JFK Softball Fields!

This event helps raise money for children in our community, and it also funds great events like "Shop With a Cop"! Join in for great family fun, silent auction, food, beer and wine!

Napa Police Department and the Napa Fire Department will be there - will you?

Happening Tomorrow! Community Wide Yard Sale 

Each year The City of Napa, Parks and Recreation Department, the Recycling Division, and Napa Recycling and Waste Services (NRWS) designates a date for families who want to participate and hold their own garage sales or yard sales. This year’s City-wide Community Yard Sale will be held at homes throughout Napa on Saturday, September 8, 2018 with many homes open on Sunday too. 

Whether you’re a buyer, a seller or both, the Napa Citywide Community Yard Sale is a fun community event that brings neighbors together for a purpose and reduces Napa’s environmental impact. 

Mark your calendars and save the date! Keep your eye on for a map of participating locations. You can also follow Napa Parks and Recreation on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter for pictures of actual items available.


Down Payment Assistance Workshop for First Time Homebuyers

The Cities of Napa and American Canyon have Down Payment Assistance Programs available for first time homebuyers to purchase single family homes or condos.  A Workshop has been scheduled to educate first time homebuyers on the home buying and mortgage loan process, and to inform them about the City’s Down Payment Assistance Program eligibility criteria.  

The next available workshop will be held on Monday, September 17, at 6:30 p.m. at the City of American Canyon’s City Council Chambers located at 4381 Broadway, Suite 201, American Canyon.

Election Day is November 6!

The November 6, 2018, ballot will include two Napa City Council seats and the nomination period for these offices began on July 16, 2018 and and closed on August 10, 2018 at 5:00 p.m. Also on the ballot will be Ballot Measure F.
